Chairs are slowly killing us, even if we are slim, researchers have warned.

A study found that sitting for more than five hours a day increased the risk of developing a serious liver condition.

The researchers warned that more than half of the average person’s waking day involved “sedentary activities associated with prolonged sitting such as watching TV and using the computer”.

Those who sat down for between five and nine hours a day were around 4 per cent more likely to develop non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) than those who sat for less than five hours, while those who sat down for more than ten hours were around 9 per cent more likely to develop the condition.
