Oak Forest HS to Honor Four Alumni Athletes at Homecoming Game

Byrdak, Coleman, Frasor and Gorecki all played professional sports

Associate Principal Dan Dunne announced today that Oak Forest High School will honor four graduates that have played professional sports at halftime of the Homecoming game against Bremen High School on September 18.

The honorees are: Tim Byrdak, Tevin Coleman, Jason Frasor, and Rick Gorecki. Tim, Jason, and Rick played major league baseball and pitched in the major leagues over the past two decades. Tevin was drafted in the third round by the Atlanta Falcons and made his NFL debut on September 14, 2015.

Their jerseys are currently displayed in the school and a plaque in their honor will be added to the Oak Forest High School Hall of Fame. Statistics, honors, and accolades for each graduate are listed below.

Tim Byrdak, 1991 OFHS grad; was All-Conference Baseball, All-Area Baseball; attended Rice University; held single season record for saves at Rice; drafted as the 135th overall pick by the Kansas City Royals in 1994; played for five teams over 12 years; played for the Royals, Orioles, Tigers, Astros, and Mets; was the last MLB pitcher to face Minnie Minoso.

Tevin Coleman, 2012 OFHS grad; Second Place in State Long Jump in 2010 and 2011; All-Conference, All-Area, and All-State Football; Southtown Player of the Year in football; at Indiana University First Team All-Big Ten, First Team All-American; Third Round Draft Pick by the Atlanta Falcons.

Jason Frasor, 1995 OFHS grad; Team MVP; All-Conference Baseball, All-Area Baseball, All-State Baseball; graduated Southern Illinois University; SIU MVP Varsity Baseball Sophomore and Senior years; drafted by Detroit in the 33rd round; played for five teams over 12 years; played for the Blue Jays, White Sox, Rangers, Royals, and Braves; holds the record for most appearances in Blue Jays history; credited with a win in 2014 Wild Card game against Oakland; pitched against San Francisco in the 2014 World Series with the Kansas City Royals.

Rick Gorecki, 1991 OFHS grad; All-Conference Baseball, All-Area Baseball, Academic All-State, All-American Baseball, Team MVP, OFHS Scholar Athlete of the Year, Sun Times Player of the Year; drafted in the 19th round by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1991; played for Los Angeles Dodgers and Tampa Bay Rays over two seasons (1997 and 1998).
