Believe it or not, Gus Malzahn is not yet ready to commit to Sean White as his full-time starting quarterback.

White threw only 10 passes, but managed the offense without making mistakes in a 35-21 victory against San Jose State on Saturday. Afterward, Malzahn was asked if White would be Auburn's quarterback for the trip to Kentucky on Oct. 15.

"I thought he competed; he did some good things," Malzahn said. "We'll take this thing week-to-week like we've been doing it. We're starting to kind of get good answers to the questions that we needed."

White was 6 of 10 passing for 108 yards. He attempted only two passes in the second half as the Tigers utilized their running game -- and Peyton Barber's five touchdowns -- to milk the clock and keep San Jose State's offense off the field.

Jeremy Johnson started Auburn's first three games of the season, but six interceptions and a lost fumble led to his benching. White is 26 of 38 passing for 296 yards in two starts, but has not yet thrown a touchdown.

White didn't seem bothered about the uncertain future entering an open week on the schedule.

"It's up to coach Malzahn, [offensive coordinator] (Rhett) Lashlee, obviously, but I'll be ready to go and I'm glad we got the win today," the redshirt freshman said. "Hopefully we can get some momentum going heading into Kentucky after this bye week."
