What's coming at Tattered Flag & Still Works in Middletown

There's still demolition going on where Tattered Flag Brewery & Still Works will be opening in Middletown in March, but the public can get a taste of what's coming.

On the distilling side, they're planning a bourbon, rye whiskey, vodka, gin, absinthe and amaro, which is infused with botanicals.

They are in the process of interviewing chefs. Devlin said they plan to hire an executive chef and two sous chefs, and will have two menus: an upscale pub menu with burgers, sandwiches and appetizers; and a dinner menu featuring fresh, local ingredients.

Devlin estimates it will take about $2.4 million to open Tattered Flag, which includes the four owners' $1 million investment and up to the $1.5 million that could be loaned from the ICDA.

They hope to preserve the historical features of the 1911 building, and will refurbish the exterior as well as the inside, where they will try to keep as much of the original wood details on the second floor as possible, including the Elks' old art deco bar.
