Position Summary:

The Staff Accountant will require a thorough understanding of accounting systems and business operations of the portfolio companies as well as information that is to be received and stored for the investment and project management functions of The Windquest Group.  Full-time, salaried/exempt position that reports directly to the Accounting Manager.  The Staff Accountant will have significant interaction with the Accounting Manager in order to fulfill position responsibilities. 

The Windquest Group is a Michigan-based, privately held enterprise and investment management firm with diversified projects in technology, manufacturing, clean-tech and nonprofit solutions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Accounting Manager with the core accounting services for the portfolio companies that do not have sufficient scale to warrant a dedicated accounting staff member.
  • Perform the processing and recording of accounts payable transactions and ensure that all invoices and staff reimbursements are paid accurately and in accordance with Finance policies and procedures.
  • Manage the processing of cash receipts and recording of receivables.
  • Perform general account analysis and reconciliations, including bank statements, fixed assets, accruals, and prepaid expenses.
  • Prepare financial reports such as financial statements, budget performance, and sales reporting.
  • Provide oversight of financial information retained by The Windquest Group to make sure information is stored in a manner consistent with the developed architecture.
  • Assist with supervising The Windquest Group accounting intern, who will perform some of the clerical/data entry aspects of the accounting function.
  • Assist with additional projects and duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related field required.
  • 2 – 3 years accounting experience preferred but not required.
  • Extremely organized, dependable, and self-motivated.
  • Able to work independently and deal with a wide range of people.
  • Strong computer skills – specifically knowledge in Microsoft Office and QuickBooks.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to use reports and syndicated data to achieve goals.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a cross-functional team environment that is decentralized.
  • Commitment to the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Must be able to open standard and lateral file drawers that require push/pull force.
