Broken

Rate this book
David was a survivor. He had been through something unimaginable and he was still standing. He figured the worst was over and the life he was leading was his new normal. He was okay with that. He was never looking back and his past was just that, his past.

His medical practice gave him all the joy he needed.

He didn’t care about anything else. He would never allow anyone to hurt him again.

Besides, he had a secret he could never tell.

Lila wanted to be a mother. She thought it was a silly idea because she wasn’t someone who people looked at as mother material.

She was recently diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and her body wasn’t handling the finding particularly well. Her dreams of a family were quickly fading and although she knew that, something made her take the appointment with the specialist who just might be able to help her.

The appointment didn’t go as planned.

David wasn’t who she envisioned.

Her life was about to take a dramatic turn and Lila found that through David, everything looked different.

He looked at her in a way no man ever had.

She made him feel things he thought he would never feel.

David knew that when she found out about his secret, she would run.

She could never find out.

He was broken.

I paid $.99 for this book. It needs a professional editor. Not a friend or beta readers, but a professional editor. After reading the book, I did not regret paying the $.99.

I loved the premise, but the writing style did not work for me. Amateurish. The switch in POV happened too quickly. There was no flow. It was not a bad read, it was just missing something. Plus, just when the couple go over one hurdle, there was another one they had to cross. I felt as if some things the author pulled out of the hat, just to add more to the story.

The hero has something awful happen to him years before by a patient. He is a fertility expert. The heroine goes to see him to see what options she has to have a baby. The heroine has MS. They are both people who have broken pasts. They are living day to day just trying to get through their tragedies. However, as the story progresses, they find that their pasts are coming back to haunt them.

Many readers will feel that the heroine had low self-esteem by always pushing the hero away thinking that he did not want to deal with her illness or the drama that was surrounding her life, but I empathized with her. The heroine never really had anyone in her life before and I could see how she felt the way she did.

I really like the overall message in this book, which is finding love and overcoming scary and traumatic experiences. “Broken” can be fixed. Healing is good, and I like these two together – a lot in fact. I liked their banter, their tenderness, and how they care for her pets.

That being said, there’s also a lot wrong with this book. I wasn’t a fan of the writing style, particularly pertaining to POV. The book in its entirety is in dire need of editing. While I like the characters, they could be a little more polished – and I don’t mean fixing “flaws” as those make them human. I mean to make it so their dialog isn’t so choppy sometimes, their mood swings don’t induce whiplash, and the spots where they appear to read each other’s minds are ironed out. The plot is confusing and somewhat flimsy, though on occasion brutal for our couple.

Overall, while sweet, the book just comes off as over the top unrealistic.

Broken is a strangely sweet romance that certainly pulls at your emotions. It’s worth checking out.

I really liked this book. Loved the characters and storyline. Lila and David are both damaged in some way...and in the end they overcome their struggles. This book tells you it's important not to give up. Robin Nadler I loved it.

If you are looking for a quick read, this is it. This book is basically the same conversation over and over. Most of the time the characters are just feeling sorry for themselves. The book summary sounded good and main plot had potential. It was disappointing that it turned out to be so ridiculous. In a way it reminded me of an old melodramatic movie with weird plot twists. A few things happened in the book that was never resolved or explained. There were a couple of humorous lines and series of blunders that turned out to be more like corny jokes. Two stars is a generous review.

I am so sorry but I have to give this book one star. The book starts out with a quirky cute kind of way and had potential. But for about 85% of the book it seems to be nothing but their hangups. Lila's with having MS and David with his past trauma. How many times do they need to say to each other that they do not have a problem with the other person. The whole thing with Susan and Lisa felt like it was thrown in at end.

What a good book! 💗

This book is so good and so emotional. Even when it got dark, it was amazing. To read how people can move past the really crappy things that life can throw at you and still be able to love... It is heartwarming and gives you hope at the same time.
