Plot summary (spoilers!)[]

The book picks up exactly where it is left off, where Ash has been imprisoned and Violet is stuck under the Duchess of the Lake's control. She suddenly gets a message by arcana from Garnet, who turns out to be an assistant of Lucien. Garnet reveals that he hated being under his mother's control, and enjoyed causing trouble for her - especially with the upcoming engagement ahead that his mother had planned for him. He also reveals that he owes Lucien a big favor, and therefore helped Violet and Ash escape from the Duchess of the Lake's mansion. However, she does not escape in time to avoid witnessing the Duchess kill Annabelle, her mute maid, in cold blood.
