CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - A new immigration office is opening in South Carolina’s Lowcountry.
United States Citizenship and Immigration Services dedicates its new office in suburban Charleston on Tuesday with an open house and a naturalization ceremony.
The new center is being dedicated in memory of the late Edward Floyd, a Medal of Honor recipient and Irish immigrant who settled in Charleston.
The new office of about 17,000 square feet will have spaces for 24 employees. It replaces another office nearby.
Each year about 4,500 people in South Carolina become American citizens during naturalization ceremonies around the state.
