Jensen Ackles’ love for classic rock is well-documented, and over the years, he’s covered everything from “Sweet Home Alabama” to “Carry On My Wayward Son” (of course). Now, he’s shown off his pipes with an epic version of “Simple Man.”

This weekend at VanCon — a Supernatural convention in Vancouver, Canada — Ackles hit the stage to cover the Lynyrd Skynyrd classic with help from Supernatural cast members Mark Sheppard on drums and Richard Speight Jr. on bass.

Ackles recently spoke to EW about Supernatural’s upcoming 11th installment — and the season’s mysterious (female!) big bad.

Supernatural will return to The CW on Oct. 7.
