The IFA sent out notice of the protest to its members early on Tuesday, signed by president Eddie Downey, asking that all counties and commodities come to offer their support. The protest will take place on Monday 31 August at the EU Commission Offices, European Union House, 12-14 Lower Mount Street, Dublin 2 at 11.30 am.

A spokesperson for the IFA said the protest is cross-sectoral and will highlight the issues facing all Irish farmers, such as the effect the Russian ban is having on pig farmers and low prices for dairy farmers.

The protest will take place before the larger protest in Brussels on the 7 September, organised by COPA and COGECA, at which the IFA council will be present.
