ANAHEIM – Disney California Adventure’s Twilight Zone Tower of Terror’s next stop is slipping into the “Twilight Zone.”
Disneyland Resort officials announced Tuesday fans will have until Jan. 2. to experience the dark elevator-style ride.
The 12-year-old ride, based on Rod Serling’s 1960’s science-fiction TV show, is being replaced by a Marvel-themed attraction, Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout!
The Marvel ride is expected to open next summer, about the time the next movie in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise hits theaters.
Leading up to the January closure, Disney officials said, the company will hold several special tributes for the haunted hotel ride.
Starting Sept. 9, visitors hopping aboard will free-fall in the attraction’s elevator shaft in complete darkness.
During the Halloween season, the trio Silver Lake Sisters will make random appearances and perform music around the Hollywood Tower Hotel, where the ride is based.
