Tommy Hilfiger, a division of PVH Corp., has signed on to sponsor the 2016 Serpentine Summer Party.
Designer Tommy Hilfiger will join cohosts Salma Hayek, Michael Bloomberg, Sir David Tang, architect David Adjaye, Matthew Freud, architect Bjarke Ingels and cricket administrator Lalit Modi with Serpentine director of summer programs Julia Peyton-Jones and artistic director Hans-Ulrich Obrist at the event.
“Art has been one of my greatest sources of inspiration since the beginning of my career,” Hilfiger said. “Cohosting this year’s Serpentine Summer Party is a fantastic opportunity to support the artistic community, and celebrate some of art, design and architecture’s most incredible talent. From painting and photography to sculpture, architecture, music and performance, the Serpentine Galleries bring all forms of artistic expression together in an incredible setting.”
“As well as creating one of America’s most iconic brands, which is synonymous with summer, Tommy Hilfiger is a globally renowned figure whose long-term commitment to art and education chimes with the Serpentine’s long-held maxim of ‘Art for All,’” said Peyton-Jones and Obrist in a statement.
The event is scheduled for July 6 at the Serpentine Gallery in Kensington Gardens, in London. Ingels has been tapped to design this year’s Serpentine Pavilion, a temporary architectural installation and forum for architectural experimentation that remains on the gallery’s lawn through the summer. During the day, the structure will feature a café, and at night, will host the Serpentine’s Park Nights program, featuring work from artists, writers and musicians.
“We have attempted to design a structure that embodies multiple aspects that are often perceived as opposites: a structure that is free-form yet rigorous; modular yet sculptural; both transparent and opaque; both solid box and blob,” said Ingels.
The Serpentine Summer Party is known to draw high-profile guests, including in the past Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Lara Stone, Keira Knightley, Orlando Bloom, Karlie Kloss, Pharrell Williams, Zandra Rhodes, Tracey Emin and David Bailey.
