Is it too soon? Preparing your website for Christmas
You don’t have to sell gift-appropriate products to get your website ready for Christmas. Christmas is something everyone can benefit commercially from, including those businesses not traditionally associated with Christmas.
Here is how to get your website ready for Christmas.
The Ghost of Christmas Past
Did you do a Christmas campaign last year? Check out your Google Analytics to see what pages people visited so you know what worked and what didn’t. Even if you didn’t do a campaign it is useful to look back your statistics for last November and December to see if you can improve your website engagement this year.
If you can’t think of what your business could do this year for Christmas, have a think back to last Christmas: what companies engaged you, and how?
The Ghost of Christmas Present
Don’t just appeal to the gift-givers, get people engaged with your brand, whether it be a festive staff video, or a way of using your skills to create something festive. Even a Christmas themed newsletter to thank your clients for their custom can be appreciated.
Keep an eye on your competitors’ websites to see what (if anything) they are doing to get involved with the festive spirit and see if you could apply this to your website. Or better still, improve on what they have done.
Consider changing your keywords to include the word Christmas. Especially if you sell products on your website which might be suitable as gifts then you might want to optimise your keywords, such as ‘best Christmas gifts for men’ or ‘unique male Christmas presents’.
Think about updating some of the images on your site to those which are more festive.
If you are selling products for Christmas on your website, be sure to clearly state on your home page what your delivery options are over the Christmas period, as well as your exchange policy.
Don’t forgot to tell people about your updated website via social media.
The Ghost of Christmas Future
Be sure to give people a reason to return to your site after all the festivities. Make visitors want to check back on your site by teasing them, for examples “Coming soon…”, “Don’t miss our January only offer” , and so on.
When Christmas is over don’t forget to compare how your website performed with the previous year. Did you see any growth and what lessons can you take for next Christmas?
So, is it too soon to be talking about Christmas? Share your thoughts!
