Museums are one of our favorite places to visit on vacation, offering us the opportunity to marvel at and be enlightened by the city or country's history, culture, and talent. Even better if they are also home to a spectacular garden—or 12. The following museums are not only listed as some of the best museums in the world, but they also house some spectacular grounds, full of flora and fauna to admire once you finish perusing the indoor attractions. From Boston to Brazil, these breathtaking museum gardens are some of the finest in the world and are worth a visit on your next trip.
Palace of Versailles
One of the world's most famous landmarks, Versailles is home to an immaculate palace, estate, gardens, and an art museum containing more than 60,000 works of primarily 16th-19th French paintings and sculptures.
The Orangery, shown here, has been a focal point of the property since the 17th century. Sitting just below the palace, this stunning green space is defined as one of famed architect Jules Hardouin-Mansart's crowning achievements and houses citrus, palm, and pomegranate trees from all over Western Europe.
Inhotim
Located in Brumadinho, Brazil, Inhotim houses one of the largest collections of contemporary art in the country and is one of the largest outdoor art centers in Latin America. It boasts a one-of-a-kind botanical collection containing rare species from every continent. This impressive institute serves not only to inspire beauty, but it also serves to educate visitors about biodiversity and conservation policies.
The Rose Garden at Exhibition Park
Exhibition Park is home to several of L.A.'s best museums, sports facilities, and parks and is located just south of The University of Southern California. The former agricultural park now houses the California Museum of Science and Industry, Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the Los Angeles County Museum of History, Science and Art, the National Armory, Los Angeles Sports Arena, and the Exhibition Park Rose Garden (formerly the Sunken Garden).
The gardens are home to more than 200 varieties of roses and several picnic spots for taking a lunch break after a long morning of perusing through the surrounding museums.
Boboli Gardens
