The Adelaide Law School offers a seamless route from your high school or undergraduate study to the practice of law in Canada. Studying law in Australia is similar to Canada because of our shared Common Law heritage. The Australian Bachelor of Laws (LLB) is equivalent to the Canadian JD. In Australia, however, you can study a Bachelor of Laws directly after high school or after undergraduate university studies. You don’t need an undergraduate degree to get into Law School, although if you already have an undergraduate degree the duration of your law degree will be reduced to three years full time as opposed to four years for non graduates.
How do I gain admission to practice law in Canada?
Federation of Law Societies of Canada National Committee on Accreditation (NCA)
Students must obtain accreditation of their degree from the NCA. Typically, this will require completing courses at a Canadian law school or writing five NCA challenge exams that cover the Canadian law content not included in the Adelaide LLB. The Adelaide Law School offers Principles of Canadian Law, a preparatory course which will count as an elective towards completion of the LLB and which will assist students who may choose to write the NCA challenge exams.
Preparation Course
The Adelaide Law School offers a preparation course on the materials required to write and pass the five NCA exams:
                    Principles of Canadian Administrative Law
                    Canadian Constitutional Law
                    Canadian Criminal Law and Procedure
                    Foundations of Canadian Law
                    Canadian Professional Responsibility

Completing the NCA Courses in Canada
The Adelaide Law School works closely with the Peter A Allard School of Law, UBC, and the Faculty of Law of the University of Alberta to provide students with the opportunity to complete the NCA required courses as part of the their Adelaide LLB.
NCA Exams
The Adelaide Law School is an approved NCA Exam Centre. Students who must complete any NCA exams can write them at the Adelaide Law School according to the schedule set each year by the NCA.
Entry requirements
The LSAT is not required. There is no need to sit the LSAT for entry to the Adelaide Bachelor of Laws. You will need to have a GPA of at least 70-75% (between 3.0-3.3 GPA).
The University will consider the LSAT, but it is not required for admission. Personal statements, reference letters and a resume/ CV will also be considered if submitted.
Cost
The Adelaide Law School’s Bachelor of Laws annual tuition fees are competitive with the leading Canadian and Australian Law Schools.
Scholarships
Law Achievers Scholarships are available for Canadian students who are seeking entry into the Bachelor of Laws (LLB). The scholarship provides AUD$10,000 payment for living allowances (subject to conditions).
