MOULTRIE  – Colquitt County Farm Bureau Director Darren Hembree is serving as chairman of the Georgia Farm Bureau Cotton Committee for 2017. Hembree farms with his father Jimmy, uncle Darrell, cousin Leland and brothers Jordan and Ryan, growing cotton and peanuts on 5,500 acres in Worth, Mitchell, Colquitt and Turner counties as well as maintaining a herd of approximately 400 commercial beef cattle.

He and his wife Wendy live in Doerun with their two sons, Hayden and Landon, and attend First Baptist Church of Doerun.

The 10-member GFB Cotton Committee is made up of cotton growers from around the state. Hembree leads the committee in making recommendations to Georgia Farm Bureau regarding issues that impact the state’s cotton industry.

As the committee chairman, Hembree holds a designated seat on GFB’s Policy Development Committee, which processes recommended modifications to the organization’s stance on issues important to agriculture. The Policy Development Committee presents the final recommendations considered and approved by voting delegates at the GFB Convention in December.

Founded in 1937, Georgia Farm Bureau is the state’s largest general farm organization and has 157 county offices.
