Stephen Davis Jr., had been committed to Auburn for more than a year, but backed off that verbal pledge on Sunday afternoon.

Davis, the son of former Auburn and NFL Pro Bowler Stephen Davis, tweeted "After thinking a lot I have just decided to open my recruitment back up and de-commit from Auburn."

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Davis Jr. is a four-star recruit on the 247Sports composite. The Irmo, S.C., native who plays for Dutch Fork High School is ranked as the 17th best athlete nationally and No. 6 prospect in South Carolina.

Davis Jr. told AL.com at The Opening that he was 70 percent committed to Auburn. He was mostly being recruited as a safety or linebacker.

"Right now, I just want to enjoy my recruitment," Davis Jr. said this summer. "I'm just trying to enjoy it when I can. You only get this thing one time and having this thing one time, you have to enjoy the moment.

Davis Jr. said at The Opening that he was also looking at Florida and Florida State.
