Meditation in Action

Even when you’re physically doing something, your aim can be meditation. This is called Karma Yoga, meditation in action.    Swami Satchidananda

The Highest Love, The Highest Realization
By Sri Swami Satchidananda

What is love? Unfortunately, the word “love” is very much misused. When we see our own Self in others and wish that they would experience the very same happiness, the same joy that we have toward ourselves, then you are experiencing true love. This kind of love is not personal; there is no business or bargaining in it. You just love for the sake of loving. When you smell a sweet flower, it doesn’t ask you to give something back to it.  MORE

Ahimsa: A Way of Life
By Swami Ramananda

Ahimsa is one of the most fundamental principles from the original scriptures of Yoga and serves as a foundation for the practice of Yoga, on and off the mat. This practice is especially important now since our world desperately needs a grassroots movement to end hostility and all of us to participate. Ahimsa is often defined as non-violence but is intended to go much deeper. Embracing ahimsa means that we examine all the ways that we may cause suffering...  MORE

Hatha Yoga: The Sadhana of Kali Yuga & Hatha's Texts
By Yogacharini Meenakshi Bhavanani and Dr. Ananda Bhavanani

The word “Hatha” is composed of two syllables: “Ha,” which refers to the solar, positive, warm, activating energies and “tha” which refers to the lunar, cooling, negative, inhibitive energies. Hatha Yoga thus becomes a method of creating a harmonious interaction or polarity between these two powerful, dialectically opposed primordial universal energies. The dominant right side of the body is harmonized with the more passive left side.  MORE

This week, Legacy Recordings reissued a black vinyl of "Tapestry," the classic album by singer/songwriter Carole King. February will also see digital release of "Out In The Cold," a new music video for "It's Too Late," and more. Carole King  is a former Integral Yoga teacher and it was her generous donation of her Music Mountain property in Connecticut that enabled the purchase of  the land for Satchidananda Ashram–Yogaville. Congratulations to Carole Karuna King on this milestone!  MORE

For 45 minutes in 2007, concert violinist Joshua Bell stood incognito on a Washington, D.C. subway platform and performed classical music. For the most part, people did not react at all. More than 1,000 people entered the Metro station as Bell worked his way through a set list of classical masterpieces, but only a few stopped to listen. Some dropped money in his open violin case, for a total of about $27, but most never even stopped to look. Here's the story...
Interpersonal relationships can be challenging to navigate especially when trying to live our Yoga. Yoga’s first foundational limb is yama, which has five practices–the first being ahimsa or non-violence. In Episode 15 of the "Two Old Fogey Yogis" podcast, our two yogis explore how ahimsa is an important aspect of satya (truthfulness), the second yama, especially when it comes to honesty in our relationships. Listen on Soundcloud, iTunes, Spotify & other podcast apps.
