How secure is your email? Find out at Oct. 21 event

An important part of protecting privacy at Case Western Reserve University relates to how employees store and transmit data on their computers and other electronic devices.

This fiscal year, the CWRU Compliance Office and Information Technology Services’ security team will partner to provide privacy- and security-related information sessions to faculty and staff.

The first session—“How secure is your email?”—will be held Wednesday, Oct. 21, from 2 to 3 p.m. in Kelvin Smith Library’s Dampeer Room.

Tom Siu, chief information security officer, and Lisa Palazzo, director of export control and privacy management, will co-present, discussing employees’ use of email, the things that can go wrong, the university’s policies regarding email and best practices for secure electronic communication.

Future quarterly sessions are tentatively planned to address security settings in Google Apps, threats to mobile devices and managing clinical research data securely.
