Slaughter, Fajardo face off in Cebu game

What started as a clash of the titans at the collegiate level will now be witnessed at the pro level for the first time in Cebu as two-time PBA MVP June Mar Fajardo and the rest of the San Miguel Beermen take on Greg Slaughter and his Barangay Ginebra Kings on Oct. 9 and 10 at the Cebu Coliseum.

The game is expected to draw a massive crowd as this marks the first time that these two Cebuanos will meet on Cebu soil since turning pro a few years back.

Before then, the two frequently matched wits in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) for their respective schools – Fajardo leading the charge for the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters and Slaughter donning the green and white of the University of the Visayas (UV).

According to renowned sports patron, Lorenzo “Chao” Sy, the chief benefactor of this explosive game, he personally pleaded with San Miguel Corporation’s president and chief operating officer, Ramon S. Ang, to allow the two teams to come to Cebu and put on a show before the rabid Cebuano fans. Sy also cited the help of another Cebu sports personality, Atty. Baldomero “Merong” Estenzo, in getting Ang’s blessing for this much-anticipated match.

Aside from the Fajardo-Slaughter match-up, Cebuanos will also get to see the coaching debut of the most successful coach in league history, Tim Cone, as he takes control over the underachieving squad after guiding the Purefoods Star Hotshots to several titles including a rare grandslam back in 2014.

Ticket prices have been set at P50 for general admission, P80 for the upper box, P150 for the lower box, P300 for the stage and P500 for courtside seats.
