PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – While patrolling the streets, many police officers have to stop at fast-food restaurants to grab a bite to eat.

On Tuesday, a uniformed officer with the Pembroke Pines Police Department pulled in to an Arby’s to grab something for dinner.

However, that officer was forced to walk away empty-handed.

According to officials, an employee at Arby’s refused to serve the officer because of their affiliation with the police department.

According to CBS 12, Sgt. J. Martin wrote in her report that the manager, Angel Mirabal, told her at the drive-thru window that the clerk “doesn’t want to serve you because you are a police officer.”

Martin said Mirabal laughed and said the clerk is allowed to refuse service to anyone.

“I am offended and appalled that an individual within our community would treat a police officer in such a manner. It is unacceptable, and I will be contacting the Arby’s CEO to demand an apology,” Chief Dan Giustino, with the Pembroke Pines Police Department, said in a statement.

Giustino says the department and its officers have a great relationship with the community, and this comes as a shocking blow.

“We are very proud of the partnerships we have built within our city, and for an incident like this to have happened is very disappointing for everyone,” he said.

After being contacted by Giustino, Arby’s CEO Paul Brown and Senior Vice President of Operations Scott Boatwright apologized on behalf of the organization.

Both told Giustino that the employee’s behavior was unacceptable and not representative of the company’s values.

Officials with Arby’s say the manager has been fired from the company and the clerk involved was suspended indefinitely.
