Ways to spend Labor Day weekend in Cenla

Planning on staying home this Labor Day? Here are some ways to spend your holiday in Cenla.

1. Get ready for the weekend with the Arts Council

Abendmusik Alexandria’s Meeting of the Minds will feature violinist and Rapides Symphony Orchestra concertmaster Lin He, cellist Paul Christopher and and pianist Elena Bogaczová. The concert begins at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Hearn Stage in downtown Alexandria. Tickets cost $10.

2. Catch Alexandria native Will Payne Harrison play at Embers 

The Nashville transplant will be back home Friday to celebrate the release of his debut album "Louisiana Summer."

3. Enjoy jazz music from Bobby Rhodes

The featured artist on Saturday at Embers downtown will be Bobby Rhodes. He will play from 7-10 p.m.

4. Visit Inglewood Farm's Labor Day Market

If you're planning to grill, Inglewood Harvest Barn Market will have specials on ground beef, ground pork and other meats. Stop by the farm, located at 6233 Old Baton Rouge Highway, from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday for those deals, live music and more.

5. Shop during Louisiana's Second Amendment tax holiday

Guns,ammunition and other hunting supplies will be exempt from state and local sales taxes this Friday through Sunday.

6. Bring the kids to learn soccer

A free community soccer clinic for kids ages 5-11 is scheduled for 9-11 a.m. Saturday at The Johnny Downs Sports Complex. Call (318) 473-1203 for more details.

7. Celebrate International Bacon Day

The last days to catch BaconFest at Atwood's, Crave and The Sandwich Shoppe will be this Friday and Saturday.
