It seems things have gotten a little … complicated for Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger. Following two years of marriage, the couple revealed plans to split on Instagram Tuesday. "It is with heavy heart that Chad and I announce our separation today," Lavigne wrote alongside a shot of the pair. "Through not only the marriage, but the music as well, we've created many unforgettable moments."

The news comes months after Lavigne revealed she was diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2014. Meanwhile, Kroeger has been on extended vocal rest following a June operation on an intracordal cyst, which resulted in the cancellation of the remainder of Nickelback's No Fixed Address Would Tour. Doctors gave Kroeger a six to nine-month recovery time.

"We are still, and forever will be, the best of friends, and will always care deeply for each other," Lavigne added on Instagram. "To all our family, friends and fans, thank you sincerely for the support."
