The Saskatoon Public School Division says about 200 students are taking part in the division’s summer reading camps this year.
Lisa Fleming, the division’s superintendent of education, says the summer reading camps are helping students get ready for class by re-introducing them to a daily routine while helping them socialize with classmates before the bell rings.
Fleming said the camps are also helping teachers, as students get a refresher on the importance of reading, which ensures they’re ready to learn when they hit the books in September.
We caught up with Lloyd Laliberte, a teacher with the division’s summer program, and his students at Pleasant Hill Community School to find out why the camps are so critical to learning in Saskatoon.
