SpongeBob SquarePants is an odd fellow. But he's also a really sweet guy, which is why pairing the yellow sea hero with David Bowie makes perfect sense. SpongeBob and Bowie are a similar mix of psychedelic and likable. Bowie was the Trojan Horse for all kinds of weirdness entering mainstream pop culture in the '70s, and if SpongeBob has a mixtape, we're pretty sure it includes Ziggy Stardust. Now Bowie is one of the big names contributing songs to the upcoming SpongeBob musical set to premiere in Chicago next year. The Nickelodeon-produced musical will feature the likes of Aerosmith, John Legend, the Flaming Lips, Dirty Projectors, Cyndi Lauper, and T.I.

But Bowie is the closest spiritual kin to SpongeBob in the whole lineup. "Space Oddity" already sounds like it should be in a SpongeBob sequence. So we rounded up 10 notable Bowie tracks that could easily be tweaked for the stage production. Here are their suggested new titles, no Weird Al required.
