TORONTO – Yahoo Inc. CEO Marissa Mayer is making a big addition to her family – two, in fact. The tech executive announced Tuesday she is pregnant with identical twin girls.
Mayer, who had a son with husband Zachary Bogue in 2012, said the twins are expected sometime in December. She added that she has no family history of twins.
But Mayer said her pregnancy won’t come in the way of Yahoo’s business – which is in the midst of big changes.
The tech company is preparing to spin off its stake in Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group and recently announced it would close its maps page, and several other sites, to focus on its search business, communication tools and content.
“Since my pregnancy has been healthy and uncomplicated and since this is a unique time in Yahoo’s transformation, I plan to approach the pregnancy and delivery as I did with my son three years ago, taking limited time away and working throughout,” Mayer wrote in a blog post.
“Moving forward, there will be a lot to do for both my family and for Yahoo; both will require hard work and thoughtful prioritization. However, I’m extremely energized by and dedicated to both my family and Yahoo and will do all that is necessary and more to help both thrive.”
After giving birth to her son in 2012, Mayer famously worked from home just days after delivery and returned to the office just two weeks later.
Critics alleged Mayer’s choice not to take maternity leave placed “unrealistic” pressure on women in the workplace.
