Arizona Extends Partnership with Sewailo Golf Club

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona Athletics and Sewailo Golf Club have agreed to extend their partnership, keeping Sewailo as the 'Home of the Arizona Wildcats' through the 2020 season. Sewailo became the home course of Arizona men's and women's golf in 2013 and both parties agreed to execute the five-year renewal option from the original agreement.

“We're extremely pleased to be continuing our partnership with Sewailo Golf Club to serve as the Home of the Wildcats for another five years,” said Arizona Director of Athletics Greg Byrne. “We've been really happy with our arrangement at Sewailo and we believe our golf programs have benefitted from the top-notch amenities the course and its training facilities have provided.”

Arizona's golf programs will continue to have exclusive use of a separate driving range and the ability to play the course throughout the year. Arizona Athletics has the right to initiate improvements, which could include a club house, hitting bays and other amenities.

“These elite athletes deserve a championship-style golf course to practice, train, and compete on, and we are excited that Sewailo can be utilized to take the Wildcat golf program to the next level,” said Kimberly Van Amburg, CEO of Casino Del Sol Resort.

Designed by PGA Tour standout Notah Begay III, Sewailo is a challenging course that measures 7,400 yards from the championship tees and offers five different tee boxes on each hole. It is managed by Troon Golf, a Scottsdale-based golf management company, which oversees properties in 29 states and 26 countries.

“The Wildcats have thoroughly enjoyed practicing and playing at Sewailo and we are blessed to have the support of the Casino Del Sol staff and the Pascua Yaqui Tribe,” said head women's golf coach Laura Ianello. “Being able to practice and play at Sewailo's first-class facility has helped our women's team improve in all aspects of the game. We have seen huge improvements in our short-game stats since we started to use the short-game academy due to our ability to practice a wide variety of shots. The ladies enjoy the facility and being able to play the gorgeous golf course. We look forward to hosting our Wildcat Invitational at Sewailo in March 2016, and potentially, the 2017 Pac-12 Championship.”

“We've been extremely pleased with the continued commitment the Pascua Yaqui Tribe, Casino Del Sol Resort, and Sewailo Golf Club have shown 'The Home of Arizona Golf,' said head men's golf coach Jim Anderson. “After our first two years at Sewailo Golf Club, it is clear that the vision this group has for their golf course and facility will help our program attract, train, and prepare elite players for competition. We have the best home course and practice facility in the country thanks to our wonderful friends and professional staffs. Our annual home event, the Arizona Intercollegiate, kicks off the college golf season each Spring and the teams competing are treated to an outstanding test of golf with first-class accommodations. Sewailo Golf Club is a place all Wildcats are very proud to call home and we're happy to be extending this partnership.”
