PNC Bank closing branch at mall, consolidating

MARION – PNC Bank will close its branch at Marion Centre Mall on Oct. 30, a spokeswoman with the bank’s corporate office said.

PNC Bank is closing the branch at 1577 Marion-Waldo Road as it is consolidated with the bank’s branch at 1366 Mount Vernon Ave., Marcey Zwiebel, of PNC Bank, said.

“We have been going through an evaluation of our overall branch network in response to the fact of the way customers are using branches is significantly changing,” as they turn to online banking, mobile channels and automatic teller machines for many of their “basic banking needs,” Zwiebel said.

She said PNC Bank has been consolidating a number of its branches across its service area of about 2,600 branches located in its service area of 19 states and the District of Columbia. PNC Bank also has 8,800 ATMs.

The last date the Marion-Waldo Road branch will be open is Oct. 30. She said the bank notified customers of the consolidation 90 days in advance.

She declined to disclose the number of employees at the Marion-Waldo branch, adding of the effect of the consolidation on workers, “Typically, and I can’t speak for that branch, we do our very best to place the employees who are impacted by the consolidation.”

No changes will be made to customers’ accounts, and no action is required of customers by the closing, according to information released by the bank.
