WILMINGTON — At least one person suffered serious injuries and Fire Department radio broadcasts indicate a second person may have been injured when an SUV struck a utility pole on Lake Street in Wilmington Tuesday night.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Lake Street and Jaques Lane about 10:15 p.m., for a report of a crash into a utility pole, according to police-radio broadcasts.

A MedFlight helicopter was requested for a male who was in the vehicle, and that helicopter landed at the Shawsheen School, nearby at Lake Street and Route 129, to transport that injured male to a Boston trauma center, according to radio broadcasts.

A second advanced life support ambulance was later asked to come to the scene, according to Fire Department radio broadcasts.

Police closed Lake Street between Route 129 and Grove Avenue as they investigated, and the street was expected to remain closed until investigators from the state police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section could document the scene.

Police tweeted from their official account that the crash caused serious injuries, but a shift commander and a supervisor both declined to comment.
