We know that money can’t buy you happiness, but folks at WalletHub have determined 31 other factors that have helped them choose the happiest state in America.
To see how location affects happiness, analysts at WalletHub compared all 50 states using key metrics, including sleep rate, work hours, sports participation, income growth, and safety. Suicide, long-term unemployment, divorce, and volunteer rates also played key factors.

1. Hawaii
2. Utah
3. Minnesota
4. North Dakota
5. California
6. Idaho
7. Maryland
8. Iowa
9. South Dakota
10. Nebraska
While the upper Midwest was home to five of the top 10, many of the states in the bottom 10 resided in the Southeast with Louisiana, Arkansas, and West Virginia rounding out the list.
