Leicester City manager Claude Puel hopes his players receive “strong support” from the club’s fans when they return to the King Power Stadium.

City host Crystal Palace on Saturday, their first home match since the 1-0 defeat to in-form Manchester United, a result that prompted boos from sections of the crowd.

After the clash with the Red Devils, City left-back Ben Chilwell said “it would be nice if (the fans) were patient with us” although the England international added that “you can understand they expect results with the quality we have got.”

It is a sentiment echoed by Puel, who wants to see his young side backed from the stands.

“These players need support, strong support, because they train very well, they make hard work in training sessions with concentration, motivation,” said the City boss. “They want to improve.

“In our best performances, we showed a lot quality with these young players. (Recently) we have had more chances than the opponents and we have played against great teams. We should have won these games or a minimum a draw.

“It’s difficult to accept. We have some frustration like our fans, but we are going the right way.

“We have to be clinical but it’s a normal thing because it’s always different the time between learning and giving the right product on the pitch.

“I have confidence because I’ve seen improvements in my players. We need to continue this way with confidence and the support of our fans.”

Claude Puel has struggled to win over Leicester City fans.

To get the home crowd behind the team, Puel hopes his player can reproduce their showing at Spurs, which he believes, despite the 3-1 defeat, was a “complete game”.

“The objective is to finish as high as possible,” said the Frenchman. “We are one point from ninth.

“We need to keep our concentration and our desire and put this good feeling in the play and to find the good clinical edge.

“In the last game (at Spurs), we had 20 shots, nine on target, a lot of good moves. I was happy about this performance, we showed lots of different possibilities in our play.

“It was a good counter attack with chances at the end, it was a good set attack with chances also, and chances at set-pieces also.

“We made a complete game and it’s important for the future.”
