COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – His campaign is a long shot but an Ann Arbor entrepreneur is using his own money to run for the governors office. Democrat Shri Thanedar met with local citizens on Thursday night at the Tibbits Opera House in Coldwater.
He says his progressive platform includes putting people over profits.
If elected, one of his first acts would be the outlawing of for profit charter schools.
Thanedar has poured over $3 million of his own money into his campaign. He is an outsider who feels Michigan voters are tired of career politicians.
A Target-Insyght poll conducted in late July showed former Michigan Senate Minority Leader Gretchen Whitmer tied with attorney Geoffrey Fieger for the lead among Democratic candidates at 35 percent. Fieger has not announced if he will run after he was the party nominee in 1998. That same poll has Bill Schuette leading by a comfortable margin on the Republican side.
