UNB IP Hackathon

Are you looking for a business opportunity? Use UNB-developed technologies for your new venture!

The UNB IP Hackathon will allow entrepreneurially minded community members to create ventures around technologies and intellectual properties presented by the University of New Brunswick’s Office of Research Services (ORS).

Open to the public, participants will examine opportunities for new and previously issued intellectual properties, as well as relevant documentation, such as articles and preliminary market assessments.

Groups will participate in workshops to apply content delivery to their IP opportunities. Areas include Marketing, Finance, Sales and Research and Development, with two general workshops which focus on business models and presentation skills. On the final day of this weekend-long bootcamp, each group will give a presentation of their preliminary business model for their venture.

Following the event, any group that is interested in pursuing IPs to commercialization will work with ORS on establishing transfer agreements. Companies created in this event will also receive Planet Hatch mentorship and guidance during their early stage of development with the opportunity to enter the Propel ICT Spring cohort.

Current IPs for presentation

  • Estimation of Average Annual Daily Traffic (AADT) using historical Short-Term Traffic Counts (SSTCs)
  • Model Predictive Controller with Tunable Correction Constant to Compensate for Time Lag (Complex Profile Tracking)
  • Upper Limb Isokinetic Dynamometer Adapter
  • A new computationally efficient, discrete time, model prediction controller for dynamically rapid industrial applications
