PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The incoming chair of the Rhode Island Trucking Association has been arrested, police said.

According to a police report, Stephen Wright has been arrested for making “crank or obscene” phone calls to elected officials in Smithfield.

Police said Wright made calls to Smithfield Council President Bernard Hawkins, and Vice President Suzy Alba – while he drank alcohol with other officials.

Officials said Wright pleaded not guilty on July 23. He has been ordered to have no contact with Alba or Hawkins.
