Congregational Announcements

There are voices in our world (and in our own community) that would have us live in fear of one another. We believe it is only in community that our fears and prejudiced can be overcome. We believe love is more powerful than hate. On Friday afternoon at 4:00 PM you are invited to celebrate our unity in the midst of our diversity. Please join us on the south side of the church at Plymouth United Church of Christ and the Ft. Collins Islamic Center (Lake St. and Shields) for a celebration of peace and unity. We are Diverse. We are United. We are Ft. Collins.

"The members of Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ, Fort Collins, Colorado hear God’s Call to care for and welcome with compassion and justice the widowed, the orphaned and the alienated who are living in our community. We follow Jesus, the Christ, who lives among the “least of these” in our communities. We affirm that each and every person is a Child of God welcome in the Realm of God’s Love. Our refugee-immigrant ancestors fled persecution; upon arriving in Colorado they established the German Evangelical Congregational Church that laid the foundation for Plymouth Congregational UCC. Therefore, Plymouth Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, Fort Collins, CO declares itself an “Immigrant Welcoming Congregation” to encourage the development of policies and activities within Plymouth UCC dedicated to facilitating respectful, compassionate welcome and inclusion of immigrants in our midst."

The Plymouth Sound team is considering upgrading our hearing assist capability in the Sanctuary. We are interested in receiving feedback on what issues currently create challenging conditions for those that use the hearing assist equipment.  We are also interested in knowing if users know of specific equipment compatibility issues that should taken into consideration.  If you have information to share, please talk to or email Dean Wallace,
dean.wallace@colostate.edu .

The Children’s Handbell Choir, led by director Kathee Houser, will ring during the Prelude for the 11:00 a.m. service this week. Arrive early and support this ensemble’s beautiful contributions to our services. During the Offertory, the Chancel Choir will sing the perennial favorite “Hymn of Promise” by Natalie Sleeth. An adaptation for congregational singing can also be found in The New Century Hymnal (#433).

We remain in the 19th century again this week with organ repertoire from Mendelssohn’s first two organ sonatas and selections from César Franck’s L’Organiste. This collection of short works was commissioned for harmonium in the last year of Franck’s life and published posthumously in 1891.The title of the collection clearly implies use for the organ and was apparently a marketing ploy by the publisher to increase sales. I will attempt to be faithful to the original registration markings for harmonium and to the timbre of that instrument.

If the Super Bowl doesn’t hold a priority on your time, considering attending the 6:00 p.m. service!Percussionists Matt Brown, Chris Hewitt, and bassist Peter Strening will join Bobby for music with an Afro-Cuban flavor.

One Village One Family is looking for new members! One Village One Family is a program that helps northern Colorado families find and stay in permanent housing by offering counseling, support, and small amounts of financial assistance. Plymouth's OVOF ministry team (or "village") is looking for a few people to join them.

The time commitment entails a training season of two to three hours, then one to two hour meetings with the family every three to four weeks, along with a check-in phone call by a member of the village with the family between the meetings.  The mentoring program lasts from six to eight months. The family is responsible for doing the leg work needed to get them into housing. If you're interested in joining Plymouth's One Village One Family team or know someone who might be, contact Betsy Bedient or Adam Redavid (ajredavid@gmail.com ) on the Outreach and Mission Board.

Thank you for supporting this vital program!
