DARTMOUTH, Mass. (WPRI) — A local travel agency is under investigation after a couple said they paid thousands of dollars for a destination wedding that was never booked.
Kristine and Jeff, from the New Bedford area, are high school sweethearts. The couple decided to tie the knot in Mexico on August 11, but they said they recently found out their trip was never booked – even though it had been paid for.
The couple is now frantically trying to rebook flights and hotels for their wedding because the travel agency where they and about 50 guests booked and paid for their trips is now closed.
A sign outside Terry’s Travel in Dartmouth says “closed due to a family emergency.”
Eyewitness News has learned that the Massachusetts Office of the Attorney General is now investigating, and a spokesperson for Maura Healey said nine complaints have been filed against Terry’s Travel. Dartmouth Police say 20 police reports have been filed.
A GoFundMe.com page has been set up to help Kristine and Jeff pay for their wedding.
We have made several attempts to contact the owner of Terry’s Travel, but have not yet heard back.
