Cannery Terror: Garage Pop with high entertainment factor

Garage-Musik ist im Kommen. Allerdings beschränkt sich vieles, was hierzulande zu sehen ist, auf Bands aus den Staaten. Besonders kalifornische Musiker wie Thee oh Sees, The Growlers oder Peach Kelli Pop prägen die Szene. Doch Europa zieht langsam nach – und das vor allem mit spannenden weiblichen Bands wie Hinds aus Madrid oder The Anna Thompsons aus Berlin. Neuster Zuwachs: Cannery Terror aus Paris. Das Frauen-Duo begeistert mit einprägsamen Garage Pop, der Spaß macht.
Gitarristin Roxane und Sängerin Clara schlossen sich im Dezember 2014 zu Cannery Terror zusammen. Sie kennen sich aber schon aus früheren Tagen: Die beiden Anfang 20-Jährigen wuchsen im Küstenort Biarritz auf und fühlten sofort eine besondere Verbindung: “We are united by art, and we are children of folk music and poetry,” so Roxane.
Beide spielen zunächst in eigenen Musikprojekten: Roxane als Mitglied der Folkbands The Oldfashioned und Blue Apples, Clara als Sängerin von Jabberwocky. Als Cannery Terror gehen sie erstmals gemeinsame Wege – und sind binnen kurzer Zeit weit gekommen: Jüngst traten sie im Vorprogramm von The Memories (Burger Records) in Paris und The Holydrug Couple (Sacred Bones Records) in Amsterdam auf. Ihr erster und bislang einziger veröffentlichter Song “Cheese” zieht immer größer werdende Kreise im Internet. Auf Youtube wurde er bereits mehr als 5.000-mal aufgerufen.
Das soll aber noch nicht alles gewesen sein. Im September beginnen die Aufnahmen für die erste EP. Außerdem erscheint ein weiteres Musikvideo. Wenn Cannery Terror im gleichem Tempo weiter machen, spricht sich vielleicht schnell herum, dass gute Garage-Musik nicht immer aus den Staaten kommen muss.

The Garage music scene is growing. However, most of the music that is heard in Europe is coming from the USA. Especially Californian musicians like Thee oh Sees, The Growlers or Peach Kelli Pop characterize the scene. But Europe is on the move – and this particularly with fascinating female bands like Hinds from Madrid and The Anna Thompsons from Berlin. The newest addition: Cannery Terror from Paris. The female duo delight with catchy Garage Pop, that excites the audience.
Guitarist Roxane and singer Clara formed in December 2014 Cannery Terror. But the two know each other from earlier days: they grew up in the coastal town Biarritz and felt immediately a connection: “We are united by art, and we are children of folk music and poetry,” says Roxane.
Both had their own music projects: Roxane as a member of the Folk bands The Oldfashioned and Blue Apples, Clara as a singer in Jabberwocky. With Cannery Terror they are following a joint path for the first time – and they got quite far during the short time: they just played as an opening act for The Memories (Burger Records) in Paris and The Holydrug Couple (Sacred Bones Records) in Amsterdam. The first and only song they released yet called “Cheese” is going quite viral on the Internet. On Youtube it has already more than 5000 views.
But this is not supposed to be everything. In September they are going to start with their recordings for the first EP. Next to this, they are going to release another music video. If Cannery Terror is going on with the same speed, soon everyone will know that good Garage music has not always to come from the States.
