Dodgers Acquire Latos, Morse From Marlins

According to Chicago Sun-Times reporter Gordon Wittenmeyer, the Los Angeles Dodgers have traded three pitching prospects to the Marlins for starting pitcher Mat Latos and first baseman/outfielder Michael Morse.

The Dodgers will absorb the contracts for both players, with Latos earning $9.4 million on his final year of his contract and Morse still owed $16 million over a span of two years.

Morse, 33, who won a World Series title last season with the San Francisco Giants (he actually drove in the title-winning run in Game 7), has played in just 52 games this year after suffering an injury. He has hit four home runs, with 12 RBIs and a .214/.277/.314 slash line.

Latos has been up and down this year, but with an overall ERA of 4.48 this season, he has put together a career-low in several stat categories. Another tie with the Giants, Latos was the starting ace of the Padres during their division race in 2010. Many will remember him losing to Jonathan Sanchez in game No. 162 when the Giants clinched a playoff spot for the first time in years.

It wouldn't end there, as Latos has become a villain of the Giants over the years. He threw a ball over the left field bleachers at AT&T Park into the player parking lot, smashing the moon roof of Giants broadcaster Dave Flemming. He has signed baseballs with "I hate SF" next to his name and has spoken out against the Giants to the media multiple times.

Maybe he is bitter, after all, Buster Posey is 7 for 21 with four home runs, a double and eight RBIs against him. Including this beauty in the NLDS clincher in 2012:
