Officer Thomas Ripp has been placed on emergency suspension, the New Orleans Police Department announced.Ripp, 31, was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated Sunday.According to a press release, Ripp was off duty and in an unmarked NOPD vehicle just before 5:45 a.m. when he struck a curb and a cement light pole on Robert E. Lee Boulevard and Dove Street.Post-accident tests indicated in a positive result for alcohol over the legal limit, the press release said.Ripp is an eight-year veteran, the department said.

Ripp, 31, was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated Sunday.
