Palestine Legal's Statement on the U.S. Congressional Hearing about the Impact of the BDS Movement

Today, attorneys at Palestine Legal issued the following statement in response to the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on National Security hearing on the impact of the boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) movement:

“Our country has a rich and powerful history of boycotts, and our Supreme Court has long held that boycotts to bring about political, social, and economic change are protected by the First Amendment. In the tradition of the Montgomery bus boycott and the boycott of apartheid South Africa, human rights activists across the United States have embraced the call to boycott Israel. These activists use peaceful, constitutionally-protected means to hold Israel accountable for violations of international law and to pressure Israel to respect the human rights of Palestinians. Instead of searching for ways to suppress and condemn this human rights movement, our federal and state governments should be protecting and advancing human rights for all people.”
