Calling all superstar citizen scientists!
We need your help protecting our waters from the threat of invasive species. Join us for our 2nd Annual Bridge Snapshot Day August 29!
On Saturday, August 29, 2015, from 9 am - 12 pm the Polk County Land and Water Resources Department and the St. Croix River Association will team up with the River Alliance of Wisconsin to host a one-of-a-kind volunteer event. Statewide nearly 200 volunteers will help search for invasive species, including escaped or intentionally released water garden and aquarium species that could choke our rivers and streams.
We need ten volunteers to monitor sites across Polk County. Want to be a part of this awesome event? Meet up with us at SCRA offices for training, followed by time out on a local stream searching for new AIS populations.
Date: August 29, 2015
Time: 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Where: SCRA, 230 S. Washington Unit 1, St. Croix Falls WI 54024

Sunday Morning Coffee Walks
Enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the St. Croix River Valley with some fresh coffee, good conversation, and a healthy morning walk next to the St. Croix River. Park rangers from the National Park Service will lead these walks (with coffee provided!) on every other Sunday through October 18, 2015.
Sunday, August 23, 9:00 am at Bedrock Glades
Take a stroll amid a complex of rocky basalt bedrock exposures and one of only four well-developed acid bedrock glades in Wisconsin. Meet the park ranger at the Osceola Loop Trailhead, located just north of Osceola, Wisconsin, one mile west of Wisconsin Highway 35 on Polk County Road S.
Each walk will be on a developed trail and last about 1 to 1 ½ hours at a leisurely pace. Uneven terrain exists in places on some trails, so participants should wear comfortable walking shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather and bring water, snacks or other items as needed.
These morning walks are free and open to all members of the public. Walks may be cancelled in the event of threatening or inclement weather. For more information, please call the St. Croix River Visitor Center at 715-483-2274.
