A Sioux Falls-based company just gained the crown as the biggest producer in its industry.

Poet, the biofuels maker, just topped long-time title holder Archer Daniels Midland Co. as the No. 1 biofuels producer in the world, according to a recent Reuters report, based on figures provided by the two companies.

Poet's annual biofuels capacity totals 1.9 billion gallons and is set to hit 2 billion by 2019. ADM's annual production capacity is at 1.6 billion gallons. Previously, both producers had a 1.8 billion capacity.

Poet continues to grow and expand ethanol production, while ADM shifted some of its biofuels capacity to other products, the report said.
