Makita DCM500Z 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless Coffee Maker

Makita is known for making great cordless tools that all use the same 18V lithium-ion battery. In fact, Makita has bragging rights to over 100 tools that are part of their LXT battery platform; and it looks like it is going to grow by at least one more cordless “tool” pretty soon. That is, if you can count a cordless Makita coffee maker as a tool.  Amazon has a new listing for the Makita DCM500Z 18V LXT Cordless Coffee Maker, though currently listed as unavailable, it will hopefully be available soon.

The Makita DCM500Z isn’t the first coffee maker targeted towards contractors, if you remember way back to November 2014, the Coffeeboxx Coffee Maker launched on Kickstarter as the world’s first ruggedized coffee brewer. Though both coffee makers are designed to serve the same market, they are nothing alike—apart from making coffee. The biggest difference is the fact that the Makita DCM500Z coffee maker is cordless. The other difference, besides design, is that the Makita coffee maker doesn’t use a K-Cup coffee pod, but instead has a reusable permanent filter. While the K-Cup is probably handier in a portable situation, it is always cheaper to use regular ground coffee.

Powered by an 18V LXT battery, the Makita DCM500Z Coffee Maker can brew one 5 oz. cup of coffee in only 7 minutes. If that is not fast enough for you, the cordless coffee maker can run off of corded AC power to make a cup of coffee in only 3 minutes. The coffee maker itself is rather compact at only 8-3/8" tall, but the LXT battery pack is not housed within the coffee maker, it is attached with a short tether. Yes, this cordless tool actually still needs a cord.

Currently there is no price listed for the Makita DCM500Z Coffee Maker, but there are some Canadian stores that list it for around $60 Canadian dollars. No battery is included at that price, but it does include the battery holder and the AC power cord. Because no battery is included, the total amount of cups you can brew will depend on the battery you end up using. Makita says one of their 5.0Ah LXT Batteries can brew three 5oz cups on a single charge, but it is compatible with 4.0Ah, 3.0Ah and even 2.0Ah Makita LXT Batteries. - Amazon
