Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s Tituss Burgess has signed with APA, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned.
The theater veteran earned an Emmy supporting actor nomination (to go with a Critics’ Choice nom earlier this year) for his breakout performance in the Netflix comedy Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. As Titus Andromedon, aspiring actor and Kimmy’s roommate, Burgess is responsible for many of the freshman show’s most viral moments, most notably the song (and accompanying music video) “Peeno Noir.”
Prior to that “ode to black penis,” Burgess showcased his high tenor in more traditional tunes on Broadway, starting with his debut in the 2005 Beach Boys jukebox musical Good Vibrations. He went on to appear in Jersey Boys, The Little Mermaid (as Sebastian) and Guys and Dolls, for which as Nicely-Nicely Johnson he performed “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat” at the 2009 Tony Awards.
Burgess first worked with Unbreakable creator Tina Fey on 30 Rock, where he recurred as D’Fwan, a member of Tracy’s wife’s entourage. He also has made guest appearances on Royal Pains, Blue Bloods and A Gifted Man. In 2006, Burgess released an R&B album, Here’s to You.
He continues to be represented by Soffer/Namoff Entertainment.
