GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – As the summer season is winding down, you may be thinking of fall decorations. If so, we have a perfect transition one that will be great going from August to September.
Burlap is a great material to work with and so local crafter Wendy Zock uses it often.
She’s showing us how to make a basic wreath in this week’s Make It Monday.
Here’s what you’ll need:
– 2 to 3 rolls of burlap
– wreath form
– floral wire
To start, fold the burlap into quarters. Cut off a few inches of floral wire and feed it through the burlap, then secure it to the form.
“I will just wrap each side around a few times,” said Zock.
Once secured, pull the burlap through and make a loop through one of the form sections, then, go through each loop and do the same.
When all three sections have burlap, pinch them and push them to one side.
Turn the wreath over, twist two to three times, then adding burlap loops through all three sections again.
“It’s very repetitive so once you get it you can do it without even thinking about it,” said Zock.
Wendy suggests putting three layers in each section before moving on to the next area.
When you run out of burlap in one roll, you’ll need to connect another with floral wire, and then keep repeating the process.
“With the burlap especially, it’s very forgiving,” said Zock. “So if one loop is bigger than another you can leave it or adjust it. I think the messier it is, the prettier it is.”
Once you’re done, use the floral wire to secure the burlap again.
Then use the wire to add whatever extras you want like color ribbon, a monogram, flowers or other holiday decorations.
