Former Wapato police officer sentenced after being charged with rape

YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash.--A former Wapato police officer will be in community custody after pleading guilty to rape.

On Wednesday, 32-year-old Travis Disney was sentenced to 12 months of community custody after pleading guilty to rape charges.

Court papers say Disney sexually assaulted a woman last May after the two got into an argument.

Police say the victim told them Disney held her down and tried to rape her.

Disney resigned as an officer in Wapato before the incident occurred.
