TE Roger Carter Featured on John Mackey Award Watch List

Roger Carter, Georgia State's two-time All-Sun Belt Conference tight end, has been named to the 2021 John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List.

The John Mackey Award is presented annually by the Friends of John Mackey to the most outstanding collegiate tight end.

Carter, the super senior from Columbia, S.C., has been a key component in Georgia State's high-powered offenses with his pass-catching and blocking ability. The three-year starter has 76 career receptions for 901 yards and 10 touchdowns in 44 career games.

Carter's 10 career touchdown catches are sixth in Georgia State history and tied for first among tight ends.

In 2020, Carter was the team's third-leading receiver with 23 catches for 285 yards while ranking second among Sun Belt tight ends with four touchdown receptions. He helped the Panthers average a school-record 33.3 points per game.

Roger Carter Mackey Award Watch List

Carter is one of Georgia State's 11 returning starters on offense and one of 10 Panthers to be named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt team. He is the third member of the GSU offense named to Preseason Watch List this week, along with running back Destin Coates (Doak Walker Award) and wide receiver Sam Pinckney (Biletnikoff Award).

Georgia State opens preseason practice Aug. 6 to begin preparation for the Panthers' Sept. 4 season opener, when GSU hosts Army at Center Parc Stadium in a noon game that will be nationally televised on ESPNU.
