For the last couple years, SUNY Geneseo has given students the opportunity to work with seniors with memory related issues.

The Home Away From Home Respite Center gives student volunteers the chance to interact with seniors a couple times a week. The volunteers do different activities, including crafts and exercises. Due to the pandemic, the program shifted virtually, but the students are still able to engage with the seniors.

"Even if it is only an hour twice a week, it's still really a positive environment and something I look forward to, to maybe brighten someone's day during troubling times like we're in right now," said Hannah Marafioti, a student volunteer.

SUNY Geneseo officials say they currently work with five families, but are happy to work with more.
