Heavy snowfall continues for northern Manitoba, 30+ cm

Tuesday, February 21, 2017, 5:01 PM - Snowfall warnings remain in effect for northern Manitoba as a low-pressure system continues to bring heavy snow to the region.
Areas along the coast of Hudson Bay could see an additional 10 to 15 cm of fresh snow, with the surrounding areas seeing a general 5 to 10 cm before Wednesday morning.
"Travel is not recommended," Environment Canada cautions. ":Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow."HIGHLIGHTS:

Conditions looks to ease for northern Manitoba Wednesday morning as the system pushes off to the east.
Some areas could pick up total amounts of 20 to 30 cm (locally up to 40 cm) by the time the snow starts to taper off.

Meanwhile, a weak front near the international border brings light snow showers and some freezing drizzle to southern Manitoba Tuesday, including the city of Winnipeg.
Forecasters are also keeping an eye on Calgary for Thursday, as a trough along the Foothills, combined with Pacific moisture and up-sloping winds could bring some significant snow to southern Alberta through early Friday. Edmonton could pick up about 10 cm.
Looking ahead into the long range, near to below seasonal temperatures dominate the next two weeks, according to The Weather Network's Dr. Doug Gillham.
"No major systems through the weekend," he says. "Next week could be more active. First couple of weeks of March look rather chilly."
