Automation has brought higher levels of precision and operational efficiency in industrial manufacturing. Evolving from a small firm in 1921 to a medium-sized company with a global footprint, family-owned Balluff has proudly contributed to pushing the limits of automation with its comprehensive portfolio of more than 30,000 sensor technology products, solutions and systems.

"Our image worldwide is built on our commitment to excellence. Balluff is called when there is a requirement for high-quality and robust products," says managing director and CEO Michael Unger.

Balluff specialises in engineering different types of sensor solutions and systems for industrial networking and connectivity, industrial identification, object detection and distance measurement. The company serves many industries, with the automobile industry and machine tool builders among its major customers.

The introduction of new technology is continuously changing the landscape of manufacturing. This challenges Balluff to forge an innovative path. While preserving the knowledge it has built throughout its history, Balluff also cultivates a nurturing and stimulating work environment for employees to encourage the flow of fresh ideas.

Moving towards a stronger internationalisation strategy, Balluff has mapped a comprehensive footprint in Asia. To deliver shorter turnaround times to Asian clients and adapt solutions locally, Balluff established a manufacturing facility in Chengdu and sales subsidiaries in Shanghai, Singapore and Tokyo.

The company also built a global distribution centre in Hong Kong. Products assembled in the Chengdu facility are shipped directly to Hong Kong for international circulation.

To serve a wider market and be closer to customers in Asia, Balluff opened a subsidiary in Taiwan last year and plans to open one in South Korea as well as offices in Indonesia and Malaysia later this year.

"China and Asia will greatly influence our business moving forward. Our increasing presence in the region shows how crucial the region is to Balluff. It is important to provide well-qualified personnel to this market," Unger says.
